The largest of the Calleryana cultivars, Aristocrat is an excellent choice if it is given room to spread. Branch angles are wider than other pearts, thus more resistnat to storm damage.
Pink buds open to white blooms in early spring. Large, golden-yellow fruit is blushed with brownish-red. Smooth, juicy, white flesh has a pleasant taste. Ripens from mid August to mid September. This tree is partially self-pollinating, but needs a pollinator in cold regions—Anju, Maxine, or Moonglow.
A near perfect tree with stronger branching than the original Bradford. The Bradford Flowering Pear is an extremely popular, vigorous growing, medium size, shade tree with outstanding clusters of white blooms in spring and very attractive terrific yellow to red to purple foliage color in fall. The Bradford pear is a beautiful garden addition that produces no edible fruit. A great benefit of the Bradford is that it is a rapid grower, achieving a 12 to 15 feet increase in height over an 8- to 10-year period. Bradford Pear trees are shallow-rooted and will tolerate most soil types. They are pest- and pollution-resistant, and tolerate drought well. It is one of the most fireblight-resistant cultivar of the flowering pears.
Handsome narrow, columnar form displays showy white blooms early in season and terrific reddish-purple fall foliage color. Ornamental fruit adds to winter show. An excellent garden tree for narrow spaces.
The Callery Pear tree is a tight, narrow, pyramidal, thornless, ornamental pear tree. Some specimens appear almost columnar in habit. Oval, glossy green leaves turn an attractive reddish purple in autumn. The growth habit is dense, narrowly pyramidal, and evenly branched. New growth shows a reddish tint. It has a heavy abundance of single white flowers in the spring. In winter, the tight, narrow form is a refined silhouette in the landscape. Callery Pear trees are very hardy and fast growing. They are an excellent choice for a trouble-free, beautiful addition in any landscape situation.
The Redspire Flowering Pear produces beautiful, large, white flowers in early spring. The flowers are larger than Bradford or Aristocrat flowering pears. The leaves emerge as red/purple and then turn a glossy green. The leaves turn to a yellow/orange color for an awesome fall display. It develops small, pea-sized, reddish fruits that are attractive to birds and other wildlife. The fruits are quite persistent and may hang for up to a year. This tree has many uses including lawns, buffer strips, median strip plantings, small shade tree, specimen and as a residential street tree. It is tolerant of pollution, compacted soils, restricted rooting areas, drought and heat.
This tree will produce small, greenish-yellow fruit if cross-pollinated correctly. This tree is upright and oval when young, but rounds out with age. Showy, white clusters of flowers burst on the tree before or as the leaves emerge. Fall color is yellow.
The Prairie Gem does not fruit unless a different Pyrus pollinator tree is near. This can be an advantage, particularly in isolated rural areas, because the 1 ¼ inch yellow fruits are not of culinary value. The cultivar displays excellent resistance to fireblight, but it is undoubtedly not immune. It will reach semi-mature height of 25 feet in 15 to 20 years. This tree is upright and oval when young, but rounds out with age. Showy, white clusters of flowers blanket the tree before or as the leaves emerge. Fall color is yellow.
