A large shrub or small tree with an upright, rounded crown. Clusters of white, fragrant flowers are produced prior to the green foliage. Juicy black fruit follow during mid-summer. Yellow fall color with soft oranges and reds.
Its main ornamental feature is its spectacular white flowers that are larger than those of other amelanchiers. The flowers are borne in early spring and are at first tinged with pink, but later fade to white. The young leaves are purplish and the fall color is red, yellow, and orange. Edible fruit attracts birds. Well-adapted for planting along residential streets where there is plenty of soil space beneath power lines.
This shrub-like, dense, multi-stem tree has thick, glossy-green foliage. Its bark is smooth and gray and its form is upright and spreading. It bears deeply dark purple fruit in the fall, and colors a bright orange-red.
